Last week we met 3 different Pets in Part One from across the province that have their own Instagram pages and learned about why they started a page for their pet, what their goals are, tips for hosting a page for your pet, downsides, if they’re receiving compensation and more! This week we will hear from 4 more in part two!
Let’s meet some more Saskatchewan Pets!
Pet #4 – Loki, Siffy & Bucky -> DSH Cats – Ages 5, 4 & 3 years – @mcukitties (Instagram) – Regina – Followers 1,600
- Tell us a little about Loki, Siffy & Bucky: All of our pets are named after characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCUkitties) even Scotty (Ant-man is Scott Lang) though that was a coincidence, as his litter was based off of Star Trek. Scotty has his own Instagram page which we will learn about below!
- Loki is my first cat and the first cat ever in my family, so he was a learning curve but the best one possible! He is my soul cat and absolutely loves just snuggling with me wherever. He was adopted as a kitten from the Regina Humane Society and he is a big proponent for why we feed raw food.
- Siffy was adopted from Regina Cat Rescue and is the foodie of the house. She is also the most vocal of the kitties and likes affection on her terms only, which means when she wants snuggles you drop everything.
- Bucky was found by a family member on the side of the highway. We took him in at only 6ish weeks and he is definitely not a normal kitten, but is so cute. He also LOVES food but loves his wand toy even more.
- Why did you start an Instagram page for your pet? I started mcukitties as a way to document the kitties because they were adorable, but it quickly turned into a way to spread the word about raw feeding for cats as obligate carnivores.
- How often do you post content? At Least Daily
- What kinds of things do you post about? Pet nutrition, training, food content, tips & tricks for enrichment all for dogs and cats.
- What do you enjoy about having an Instagram page for your pet? I enjoy finding like minded people and seeing the community that is there for raw/fresh feeding.
- What is a downside to having an Instagram page for your pet? Cats are severely overlooked, it has taken 3+ years for us to reach 1.5k followers, whereas Scotty’s account was started in Sept 2023 and is 500 followers away from the cat’s account. Cats aren’t seen as valuable as dogs are and I want to bring more awareness to their uniqueness.
- Do you have any tips for those wishing to grow their followers or get started as a Pet Influencer? Posting consistently, finding like-minded people and building genuine relationships.
- Do you receive any form of compensation from your Pet’s page? Yes!
- Is there anything else you would like to add? We are a no-judge zone and love answering questions!
Pet #5 – Scotty -> Shepherd/Pitbull X – Age 1 – @sniffingwithscotty (Instagram) – Regina – Followers 1,134
- Tell us a little about Scotty: Scotty is new to the fam, as we adopted him in Sept 2023, and him and the cats are a work in progress. Scotty loves pretty much everything but other dogs. He is dog reactive, but we are working on helping him be more neutral. He loves playing fetch and tug, but his favourite pastime is playing with his soccer ball in the back yard.
- Why did you start an Instagram page for your pet? I started Scotty’s account separately to see the dichotomy between cat and dog accounts, because I noticed a huge difference between the communities.

Pet #6 – Fitz -> Australian Shepherd – Age 2.5 – @fitzandthor (Instagram) – Saskatoon – Followers 655
- Tell us a little about Fitz: Fitz is the most posh puppy. So much that he wouldn’t take any fruits or vegetables! He’s very vocal and a lot of fun. He always needs something to do and does everything 1000%. Thor was part of the page as well, a 1 year old Rottie, Shepherd Mix. He unfortunately passed in August of 2023 from Tetanus.
- Why did you start an Instagram page for your pet? Having an Aussie and Rottweiler they’re so different and hilarious. I wanted to show them and their funny personalities and also learn more about stuff we started – raw food diet, canine relationship building, dog sports.
- How often do you post content? At least daily
- What kinds of things do you post about?
- Funny things
- Dog friends
- Fitz and his personality
- Raw food
- Sports
- What do you enjoy about having an Instagram page for your pet? The dog community and people recognize Fitz when we are out and about which is fun!!
- What is a downside to having an Instagram page for your pet? Time – always needing to keep up or have new topics to post.
- Do you have any tips for those wishing to grow their followers or get started as a Pet Influencer? Just do it!! Everyone loves seeing people who love their pets and do fun things with them. Don’t worry about not having a lot of followers, or thousands of reel viewers, it’s really a fun thing to do with your pet
- Do you receive any form of compensation from your Pet’s page? Not yet
Pet #7 – Junior -> English Springer Spaniel – Age 3 – @thelittlespringerthatcould (Instagram) – Saskatoon – Followers 31
- Tell us a little about Junior: Junior is an athletic, smart, and funny dog. He is a multi sport titled dog who I adopted from WANAR when he was 6 months old. He has titles in Trailing and Locating, Scent Detection, Tricks, Fitness, Barn Hunt, Dock Diving, and possibly more I am forgetting about. He loves to cuddle and to be carried around like a baby koala where he wraps his legs around me and holds on for dear life. I joke that he would crawl inside my skin and live there if he could because he always wants to be just a little bit closer to me. He is a one of a kind dog, and he has made me a better handler.
- Why did you start an Instagram page for your pet? Because I had one for my older dog and it just made sense. He has found some of his littermates and kept in touch with them and his breeder through his instagram page.
- How often do you post content? Less than once per week
- What kinds of things do you post about? Mostly sports. But also his birthday and gotcha day and all of his silly day to day things too.
- What do you enjoy about having an Instagram page for your pet? I like having a place to share everything and a place I can go back and look when he is no longer with me. It’s like a digital photo album that I can share with the world.
- What is a downside to having an Instagram page for your pet? No real down side. Just remembering to use hashtags. I’ve had a harder time growing his following than I did my other dog. I think because he is purebred and Jake is not a lot of people are more drawn to rescues and mixed breeds, Junior’s page just appeals to less people. But I also need to do more hashtags.
- Do you have any tips for those wishing to grow their followers or get started as a Pet Influencer? Just be yourself and the right people will find you. Also save a list of hashtags in a note on your phone so when you go to post you can copy and paste and then just add a few each time that are relevant to that photo, video, or reel. Also use your stories. I need to get better at both of these.
- Do you receive any form of compensation from your Pet’s page? No.
If you’re on Instagram and are looking for some local “celeb” dogs to follow check out the accounts of the pets mentioned above and from Part One! We will be sharing more Saskatchewan Pets next week in Part Three!
