Local Rescue Feature – Swift Current SPCA

The Swift Current SPCA is not-for-profit organization overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors. It was founded back in 1971 where they started by caring for strays in homes. In 1973 the city granted them permission for their first building and in 1990 the current shelter opened.

The Swift Current SPCA is operated by a combination of paid staff and volunteers. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and relies primarily on community funding. The SPCA is a community-operated, community-focused organization dedicated to connecting lost, abandoned, and unwanted animals with caring individuals, families, and homes.

If you would like to Volunteer with the Swift Current SPCA you can do so by:

  • Fostering
  • Shelter Help – Dog walking, Cleaning Kennels, Helping with other duties
  • Working in their Used Book Store
  • Assisting with Events and Fundraisers
  • Serving on their Board of Directors

Occasionally the Swift Current SPCA receives companion animals that may require time in a foster home before they can be made available for adoption; this may be due to age, medical needs, or behavior issues. To become a foster with the Swift Current SPCA you contact them for more details.

The Swift Current SPCA relies on donations to help rescue and care for animals in need. They are ALWAYS in need of:

  • Monetary Donations
  • Cat, Kitten & Puppy Kibble
  • Food/Water Dishes & Slow Feeders
  • Wood Pellet Cat Litter
  • Kuranda beds
  • Heating pads
  • Cleaning Supplies (Disposable gloves, Heavy-duty garbage bags, Liquid laundry & dish soap, Bleach & Toilet paper)
  • Office Supplies (Printer paper, Printer ink(Brother LC406 all colors), Business envelopes, Pens & highlighters, Scotch tape & Post-It notes)
