Saskatoon Parrot Rescue (SPR) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the health, safety and welfare of all parrots. They provide education on the care of parrots, take in parrots in need of a new home, and work with parrots and their owners in order that they have a long, happy life together.

Parrots are a serious, long term commitment that shouldn’t be taken lightly. They can live upwards of 80 years, require special diets, and need daily attention. If a parrot falls ill, they require a specialized avian veterinarian. Behavioral problems also can crop up, and parrots have good days and bad days just like us! All adoptions include the parrot, its cage, toys, a general health check by an avian veterinarian (and more extensive testing if needed) and a week’s worth of food.

Saskatoon Parrot Rescue is a foster-based rescue and is always looking for volunteers to help foster birds. If you are interested in becoming a foster you can fill out the FORM on their website. Once you apply they look at things like your past experiences with birds (if any), what your housing situation looks like (Apartment? Children?), and why you’d like to foster. SPR supplies everything you’ll need to care for the bird until it finds it’s forever home.
SPR relies on donations to help rescue and care for animals in need. They are ALWAYS in need of:
- Monetary Donations
- Cages – due to toxicity and health risks, they do not accept rusted cages but brand new or gently used cages are perfectly acceptable!
- Pelleted food – their trusted brands are RoudyBush, Harrisons, Zupreem, and Tropican
- Newspaper
- Any sized paper bags– these are used to create foraging toys
- Hemp rope
- Untreated wood– please ensure that no chemicals or pesticides have come in contact with the wood
- In shell nuts– no peanuts as they post a mold risk
- Unsalted out of shell nuts
- Garden veggies
