Border Paws Animal Shelter (previously know as the Lloydminster & District SPCA) is a non-profit organization and animal shelter located in Lloydminster. They also act as the city pound and take in stray/roaming animals in hopes of reuniting them with their owners.
Types of Animals they work with: Dogs, Cats, Rabbits & Other Small Animals
Border Paws provides an Education Program for kids. This includes:
- Shelter Tours where students experience ‘A Day in the Life of a Shelter Animal’ which includes a tour of the facility and visiting with the animals. Tours are about an hour in length and cover the importance of providing an enriched environment for animals while in the shelter.
- In-Class Presentations & Activities which vary depending on the grade covering topics including: responsible pet ownership, dog and cat body language, careers in animal care and the importance of spaying/neutering your pet. Presentations are approximately 1 hour
If you would like to Volunteer with Border Paws you can do so by:
- Fostering
- Walking Dogs at the shelter
- Socializing Cats at the shelter
- Helping at Fundraisers
- Reading to shelter animals
Occasionally Border Paws receives companion animals that may require time in a foster home before they can be made available for adoption; this may be due to age, medical needs, or behavior issues. To become a foster with Border Paws you must:
- be 18 years of age or older
- provide government issued ID, with your current address
- be able and willing to commit as much time and energy to animal(s) in your care as required
- allow a home visit by our operations manager, prior to approval into the program and during the fostering term
Border Paws Animal Shelter relies on donations to help rescue and care for animals in need. They are ALWAYS in need of:
- Monetary Donations or Gifts Cards (Walmart, Staples, Home Depot, Canadian Tire, etc)
- Canned Dog & Cat Food
- Prescription A/D or Medi-Cal Recovery Canned Food
- Cat Litter (wood pellet or other non-clumping)
- New Litter Pans
- Blankets
- New Cat Scratch Towers
- New Cushioned Pillow Beds for cats and dogs
- Timothy Hay
- Rodent Bedding (no shavings)
- Medical Supplies (Nitrile Gloves, Syringes (all sizes), Needles (25 – 18 gauge, up to 1.5″ long))
- Cleaning Supplies (Laundry Detergent, Liquid Dish Soap, Plastic Garbage Bags (heavy duty), Clear Garbage Bags, Paper Towel)
- Office Supplies (Photocopy Paper (letter size), Thermal Debit Rolls, Pens, Dry Erase Markers, Batteries (AAA, AA))
