Local Rescue Feature – North East SPCA

The North East SPCA (NESPCA) is a registered charity and non-profit organization and animal shelter located in Melfort. They have found homes for 800 animals in five years!

They are currently holding a Save Our Shelter Campaign to raise $400,000. Due to the pandemic lock down, high mortgage rates and the current economy and inflation rates the shelter has come to the point that they may have to close their doors.

Types of Animals they work with: Dogs & Cats

NESPCA runs a Barn Buddy program for those looking for outdoor mousers. These cats are typically male and usually high energy animals that don’t like to be contained indoors for too long; they usually cannot live in a home setting, but love being outdoor cats! They are spayed/neutered and vaccinated, ready for a new home at a much lower adoption cost.

If you would like to Volunteer with NESPCA you can do so by:

  • Helping at Fundraising Events, BBQs and more
  • Walk shelter Dogs
  • Socialize and play with Shelter Cats
  • Join the NESPCA Board
  • Foster

Occasionally NESPCA is looking for volunteers to help foster animals when they have an animal requiring special care, due to space constraints or one that is not thriving in the shelter environment. If you would like to be a Foster with the North East SPCA you can contact them for more details.

NESPCA relies on donations to help rescue and care for animals in need. They are ALWAYS in need of:

  • Wet & Dry Dog Food
  • Wet & Dry Cat Food
  • Litter
  • Puppy Pads
  • Dog & Cat Treats
