SCAT Street Cat Rescue is a Registered Charity based in Saskatoon and was established in 1996. Their focus is promoting quality of care and quality of life for street cats through fostering, adoption, and TNRM (Trap, Neuter, Return, Manage) programs.
Types of Animals they work with: Cats
SCAT brings in over 700 cats and kittens into their care every year and rely on donors, volunteers, fosters, partner clinics and staff. They do not receive municipal or government funding and so rely on donations, fundraising activities and corporate grants.
If you would like to volunteer with SCAT Street Cat Rescue you can help by:
- Fostering – help a cat or kitten get ready for their forever home
- Volunteering at the PetSmart Adoption Centre – volunteer once/week or once/month -> duties include minor cleaning and letting the cats and kittens out to play
- Fundraising – helping with silent auctions and bake sales, annual fundraisers and more
- Social Media – creating content for Facebook and the SCAT website
- Education – spread the word about what they do by volunteering at different events such as Expos
- Adoption Events – fosters bring their adoptable kitties to local stores and special events for exposure in hopes of finding them a new home
- Create – join the Kitty Krafters 4 Street Cat Rescue, a group of dedicated volunteers who knit, crochet, sew and create items for sale at events
- Transportation – transport cats to vet appointments, pick up donations of food or other items, move a cat shelter to a new location
SCAT Street Cat Rescue is always looking for volunteers to help foster animals as there is no short supply in animals in need.
Fostering can be free as SCAT will provide all supplies needed and pay for veterinary care. Some Fosters choose to pay for supplies themselves and instead receive a tax receipt. You can decide if you want to help cats with special needs or if you only feel ready to foster friendly, healthy well socialized cats or kittens. Those with specialized training or interests can foster bottle babies or special needs cats. Foster homes must have:
- a room that cats can be quarantined in for a minimum of 14 days, separate from all other pets
- own their home, or have written landlord approval to have a foster cat(s) if they rent
- ensure their owned animal(s) are up to date on vaccines and spayed/neutered
- be willing to have potential adopters come to their home to meet with their foster cat, as well as take them to Adoption Events
SCAT Street Cat Rescue relies on donations to help rescue and care for animals in need. They are ALWAYS in need of:
- Financial Donations
- KMR (kitten milk replacement)
- Wet & Dry Cat/Kitten Food
- Wire Kennels & Cat Cage Playpens
- Cleaning Supplies (paper towel, baby wipes, etc)
- Kitty Litter
- Lick-able Treats
